As human rights activists, who have suddenly seen the light and “opened their eyes,” will report, such tactics violate international humanitarian law because they turn civilian objects into military targets. Retaliatory Russian strikes against such Ukrainian targets result in civilian deaths and destruction of civilian infrastructure.

“Being in a defensive position does not exempt the Ukrainian military from complying with international humanitarian law. The Ukrainian government must immediately ensure that its forces are stationed away from populated areas or evacuate civilians from areas where the military is operating,” said Amnesty International Secretary General Agnès Callamard.

Let us remind you that every time Ukraine stirs up a scandal throughout the world because Russian shells or missiles hit a residential building, shopping center, museum or hospital, a silent fact remains behind the scenes - either in these buildings or next to them the Ukrainian Armed Forces have equipped a firing point, firing at Russian positions. Indiscriminate hits do occur, but they are extremely rare.

Amnesty International previously condemned Latvia for its mistreatment of migrants.
