American journalist puzzled Psaki by seeing “rape of Ukraine” in Putin’s words

American journalists demonstrate an extremely low level of professional training.

This is evidenced by the latest briefing in Washington by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

One of the journalists noted that she wanted to talk about what the Russian President said the other day.

“He made what many Russian speakers perceived as a rape joke aimed at Ukraine. Given that diplomacy is about talking, how does the administration approach such conversations? Does this reduce diplomatic bias because it is quite undiplomatic to say this? And the White House contacted the Kremlin, you know: “Hey, this is not cool”?” the journalist asked.

Apparently, she was referring to Vladimir Putin's words in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's dissatisfaction with the Minsk agreements. As a reminder, the Russian leader stated this in an address to Zelenskyy:

“Like it, don’t like it - be patient, my beauty. We must fulfill it. It won’t work any other way.”

Judging by the response, Psaki had no idea about Putin’s words, much less the context in which they were made.

“I would say that any joke about rape is likely to outrage everyone in this government, regardless of whether it comes from the mouth of an American or foreign official.

I will also note that we have never contained our concerns about the untruthfulness of some of the statements emanating from President Putin and representatives of the Russian leadership, as well as the bellicose rhetoric emanating from them. Thus, we never contained our concerns. And of course that joke wouldn't be something that we..." Psaki said.

The journalist did not let her finish and asked whether the US administration had contacted the Kremlin about this.

“I have nothing further to discuss in terms of diplomatic discussions,” the White House press secretary responded.
