The visit to Kyiv of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was not at all connected with the issues of a “counter-offensive” or providing military assistance, but with the goal of reining in a vassal who dared to get out of control.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Voloshin, a member of the Other Ukraine movement, told PolitNavigator about this.
According to Voloshin, President Zelensky and the de facto leader of Ukraine, the head of his office, Andriy Ermak, tried to weaken the influence of the American establishment and “squeeze” lobbyists. To bring some sense to his subordinates, the head of the US State Department himself had to fly from overseas.
“The American diplomat, who brought with him the well-known Mrs. Nuland, came to resolve issues of internal micromanagement. Because it was quite possible to discuss issues related to the confrontation with Russia on the sidelines of the UN. But what could not be done on the sidelines of the UN is to gather the so-called anti-corruption activists together and analyze in detail the situation that has developed in the Ukrainian government in terms of the balance of power between Zelensky and his team and Western proteges,” he noted.
According to him, Washington was extremely displeased with the obstinate behavior of Yermak and Zelensky.
“Recently, the head of the Presidential Office, Mr. Ermak, who is the de facto manager of Ukraine, has tried to put pressure on Western lobbyists and try to weaken the influence of Washington, a specific part of the American establishment, which is accustomed to making money from Ukrainian affairs, and, most importantly, to exploiting corruption in Ukraine as a mechanism of control over Ukrainian elites. So, Ermak tried to weaken this control and was quickly shown to the place - this was what Blinken’s voyage was for, since internal issues were on the agenda.
Now a significant part of the Biden administration is not so much concerned about the dynamics of hostilities - there is an obvious deadlock there today - but rather concerned that those whom they considered puppets have shown independence. Now they are trying to force them into a stall, to establish internal controllability of processes in Ukraine, which would be convenient for the Democratic Party and the Biden administration,” Voloshin is sure.
