Crimean farmers will be compensated for losses due to the blockage of the North Crimean Canal
Simferopol, May 14 (Navigator, Kirill Boyarin) – Due to Ukraine’s blocking of the North Crimean Canal, farmland will not be irrigated this year.

As Igor Vail, Chairman of the Crimean Water Resources Committee, told Navigator, today the priority measures of the local authorities are aimed at providing the peninsula with drinking water, especially during the holiday season.
“We began transferring water from the Belogorsk and Taigan reservoirs along the 51 km long Biyuk-Karasu river bed to the North Crimean Canal and further transporting water to the Feodosiya reservoir. By doing this, we will close the pain point for water supply – the Sudak-Feodosia region,” noted the head of the water sector.
According to him, the government will compensate farmers for losses:
“Today there is no question regarding agricultural consumers; the Crimean government is preparing documents to compensate for losses to agricultural producers. It is impossible to replace the amount of water that is used for irrigation, about 800 million cubic meters of water per year.”
At the same time, Igor Vail emphasized that 5,6 million rubles were spent from the Crimean budget on the emergency transfer of water from the river to the North Crimean Canal.
