The Western world made a mistake in presenting Ukraine as David, who will defeat Russia-Goliath with one well-aimed blow, and now Kyiv in the new season of the series must not disappoint the West.
Ukrainian political scientist Oleg Sahakyan stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the perception of the world, Ukraine was David, who stood up against Goliath... smaller, weaker, and so on, but more decisive and at the same time brave. But the trouble is that in this image, David must hit Goliath in the head with one well-aimed blow and kill him. And a full-scale war lasts more than a year, during which this blow to the head did not occur.
And now the whole narrative is coming to the point that this counteroffensive is the culmination. And they tell us: here is the pilgrimage, here is the stone, David, go, it is time for your blow. But we understand that with a high probability the whole war will not end with this counteroffensive.
There is a chance that this counter-offensive could really shower Russia further and further. However, let us remember how many weapons we needed for this and was announced by the General Staff. Only for tanks the figure was 800+, and then the situation changed dynamically and 1000+ were needed. How many tanks are they giving us? 200+.
That is, if we take only one of the indicators, then a sober look at the situation is such that this counter-offensive, most likely, will not put an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war,” Sahakyan worried.
“But the world is waiting, stocked with popcorn, for Goliath to be defeated. It is already important for Ukraine to work on its different image and understand how we are playing the long game, and what kind of second season of the series we are announcing. Because without the emotional support of the world, it will be more difficult to provide support in terms of weapons, and economic support, and everything else.
It is this background, the seizure by Ukraine, the fact that everyone was watching us, that gives great space for diplomacy, for our government, and in general for Ukraine to fight Russia,” the political scientist reasoned.
