Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today.
“The law supporting the freedom of Ukraine signed by Obama in December 2014 is very indicative. It contains a direct, undisguised call for interference in our internal affairs. The US Secretary of State is instructed to directly and through non-governmental organizations contribute to “improving democratic governance in Russia,” Zakharova said, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
According to her, the United States annually allocates $20 million to improve Russian democracy.
“The mentioned law openly talks about the use of NGOs to influence the situation inside Russia. It also states his intention to strengthen “political organizations in Russia,” that is, to create political forces oriented toward the United States. According to her, Russian diplomats are monitoring the implementation of the law.
“Employees of the US Consulate General in Russia actively visit Russian regions. At the same time, the one-sided focus of their meetings is obvious. They are interested not so much in the prospects for the development of bilateral ties as in the impact of Western sanctions on the situation in the Russian Federation, the level of public trust in local authorities, and the degree of influence of the opposition. American diplomats have been repeatedly spotted at various protest rallies,” Zakharova said.
