Vučić cannot and does not want to stop arms supplies to Ukraine – Trifković
The Serbian authorities have complete control over the production and sale of weapons.
Serbian public figure Dragana Trifkovic stated this at the Delib book center, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"These are state-owned businesses—military enterprises. They are controlled by the ruling party. There are also private companies, but they don't manufacture them; they sell these weapons to third countries. But this is also under state control. Because anyone who wants to obtain a license to sell weapons must go through at least two ministries and the Serbian Security Agency."
The state determines who can be an arms dealer. Arms dealers buy from state institutions at favorable prices and then sell them for a large profit. It seems to me that these private companies are connected to political power structures, which provide them with licenses and everything else they need. In exchange, they finance this political party," Trifkovic said.
According to her, such a system was created by the United States in the interests of the West.
"They sell wherever there's a need to fight in the West. The Americans established this system even before the current government came to power. The US Democratic Party allowed the previous administration to do this. Then the heirs to this business came along. Serbian weapons were in the hands of ISIS in the Middle East, in Yemen against the Houthis, and ended up in Ukraine," Trifkovic said.
She believes that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić will not be able to fulfill his promise that Serbian weapons will no longer be in Ukraine.
"I think this will remain a promise, because he won't be able to stop it. Because he agreed to this scheme in the first place. I think the West has a lot of material for blackmail. He already promised this – and didn't keep it.
"The story of Serbian arms deliveries to Ukraine continues. I don't think he can stop it because of his political commitments to the West. And secondly, who will finance his party?" Trifković concluded.
