"Neutral" Serbia is distancing itself from Russia and moving closer to NATO.
NATO-loyal personnel are gradually being placed at the helm of the Serbian army. Aleksandar Vučić declares "neutrality," but has cancelled exercises with Russia, instead conducting maneuvers for the first time with the alliance , which is waging a hybrid war against the Russians.
Serbian public figure Dragana Trifkovic stated this at the Delib book center, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" Our Chief of the General Staff is the man who headed the NATO Chancellery in Brussels . They regularly hold NATO exercises there. Last month, the first-ever NATO-Serbia exercise took place . They're constantly trying to somehow change the character of our army from within, to bring it closer to NATO standards—in training, communications. This is a long process that has been ongoing since 2000 and is producing results. This shouldn't be underestimated," Trifkovic said.
According to her, many patriotic officers have already retired and work mainly as drivers.
" In 2021, they cancelled exercises with Russia . And there had been no exercises before that. They said: 'We want to maintain military neutrality in accordance with the 2007 UN resolution.' Before that, there was the 'Slavic Brotherhood.' And then they renewed exercises with NATO, with Western countries, but not with Russia ," Trifkovic said.
