London's military support for Ukraine will only increase
The current British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, especially as the elections approach, will increasingly show himself as an ally of Ukraine in the confrontation with Russia.
This was stated by Kira Godovanyuk, a leading researcher at the Center for British Studies at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as reported by PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considered the absolute record holder for support for Ukraine. So Sunak is keen to show that he is not behind Johnson in terms of both political leadership and support for Kyiv. This is an important point as there continues to be division within the Conservative Party.
The closer the elections get, the more such narratives will become tougher, and the desire to demonstrate oneself as Ukraine’s main ally will intensify,” Godovanyuk told Izvestia.
A similar opinion is shared by the academic director of the Graduate School of International Relations and Foreign Regional Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Sergei Shein. Moreover, according to him, this will not be prevented by socio-economic turbulence within the country.
“I don’t think that even because of the difficult socio-economic situation, support for Ukraine will waver; it will remain at the same level. This is important for Sunak for his international prestige, for his role in the Western coalition, in order to socialize in the international environment,” Shein predicts.
