In Western Ukraine, a gang of racketeers, which included Ukrainian military personnel who left their units, was neutralized.
The SBU press service reported this, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent , pompously noting that organized crime is "trying to infiltrate the Defense Forces during wartime."
“As a result of a special operation in the Lviv region, a gang of racketeers, organized by two former criminals who hid their “past” and were called up for military service, was neutralized. After enlisting in one of the military units in the region, they left the unit without permission and began extorting money from citizens.
Hiding behind the status of military personnel, the defendants created artificial conflict situations, and then billed the victims for resolving the dispute,” the report says.
It is indicated that the fact of extortion of 4 thousand US dollars by racketeers from a demobilized Ukrainian Armed Forces fighter has been documented.
“If he refused to pay the full amount, the attackers threatened the man with violence and physical harm. During operational actions, law enforcement officers caught both racketeers in the act while transferring some of the money from the victim. Currently, the detainees have been reported on suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (extortion under martial law),” the Ukrainian special service added.
Those detained face up to 12 years in prison.
