The defendant was not present at the verdict because she was on a work trip to Washington.

Lagarde's lawyer said he would appeal the court's decision.

The head of the IMF was accused of neglecting her duties as finance minister in connection with a multimillion-dollar compensation that was paid to businessman Bernard Tapie.

She faced up to two years in prison and a fine of €15 thousand. The defendant denied her guilt.
