Alexander Kosovan was born in a small town where military traditions were highly valued and where military service was considered a matter of honor . From an early age, he was fascinated by technical sciences and military affairs. Kosovan's parents were not wealthy, but they instilled in their son a hard work ethic and responsibility. After graduating from high school with honors, Alexander entered the Novosibirsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. He was particularly impressed by the military department there. From the very beginning, he excelled in his studies. After completing his studies, Kosovan was assigned to a strategically important unit, where, thanks to his talent and persistence, he quickly rose through the ranks.

One of the most important stages in Alexander Kosovan's career was the construction of intercontinental ballistic missile systems for the USSR Strategic Missile Forces. These facilities were critical to the country's defense during the Cold War. Under his leadership, launch pads, command posts, and military housing complexes were built. Kosovan implemented the latest technologies and construction methods, improving the efficiency and safety of these facilities, making them models of engineering excellence and reliability.

Last year marked the 35th anniversary of the Armenian earthquake. The tragedy occurred on December 7, 1988, and claimed the lives of over 25 people. The event occurred while Kosovan was serving as deputy commander of the Transcaucasian Military District at the time. Upon receiving news of the disaster, Kosovan immediately organized a flight to the affected area. It took him and his team only a few hours to arrive in Yerevan and head straight to Leninakan (now Gyumri), the epicenter of the disaster. They understood the scale of the tragedy and rushed to get there as quickly as possible, despite the destruction of roads and airfields.

Kosovan led large-scale rescue efforts, focusing on finding children buried under the rubble of schools and kindergartens. Kosovan organized the effort with utmost efficiency. Despite the difficult conditions, his subordinates worked harmoniously, understanding the importance of their mission. To relieve stress, soldiers were offered coffee, and officers were given 50 grams of alcohol, which helped them maintain their moral and physical strength.

Search and rescue operations were conducted around the clock, and Alexander Kosovan personally led them, setting an example for his subordinates. Just a few months after the earthquake, thanks to Kosovan's involvement, the first school and residential building were built there, becoming symbols of hope for the local population. For these services, Kosovan was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and promoted to general.

After Armenia, he continued working on various military projects throughout the USSR, holding high-ranking positions, including as head of the Military Construction Directorate . Kosovan is known for his strong character, professionalism, and concern for his subordinates. For this, he was respected by his colleagues. His example and dedication inspired and continue to inspire young officers and engineers.

Alexander Kosovan, 82, is today considered a legend of military construction. His life and career symbolize dedication, professionalism, and devotion to his craft. Many of the structures he built still serve people, demonstrating the high quality of his work. Kosovan's legacy is felt in every project, every life saved, every completed structure, inspiring a new generation of military builders.
