In Sofia, amid cries of “Hurray!” the flag of Ukraine was thrown from the balcony of the city hall
Candidate for deputy of the Bulgarian parliament from the Revival party Atanas Stefanov, amid shouts of “Hurray!” threw the Ukrainian flag from the balcony of the Sofia City Hall, which he called “fascist.”
This happened on March 9 as part of protests against the dismantling of the monument to the Soviet Army in Sofia, a matter that the mayor's office was considering, reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".

On Thursday, March 9, several speeches by Sofia residents took place against the demolition of the Soviet Army monument planned by the city authorities. During one of them, townspeople expressed their indignation by throwing eggs and red paint at the building of the capital's mayor's office, where the scandalous decision to dismantle the monument was made. The demonstrators demanded “not to touch Bulgarian history.”
However, the Sofia City Council, with a majority of 41 votes, asked the Bulgarian authorities to transfer the monument into state ownership and move it outside the city center. 13 deputies from the Bulgarian Socialist Party were against, and one deputy from the VMRO party abstained.
It was after this that Atanas Stefanov climbed onto the balcony of the Sofia City Hall, where the national flag of Ukraine was installed, and threw it onto the sidewalk. A video released by the Bulgarian Mir party shows Stefanov removing the flag and throwing it from the balcony to the accompaniment of cries of “Hurray!” The flag was then taken from the street.
“We took down the fascist flag, which has no place there. He has no place there for a long time. Death to fascism, we will not legitimize the fascists and the Holocaust,” the Bulgarian politician commented on his action.
The candidate for deputy of the Bulgarian parliament from “Renaissance” was also praised by the leader of the “Peace” party, Simeon Slavchev, who is also participating in the early parliamentary elections scheduled for April 2.
