Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced this at a press conference in Moscow, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We still hope that the agreement the two presidents reached on August 15 last year in Alaska will be implemented. Especially since its key components were proposed by President Trump and accepted by President Putin.
This would be a crucial step, the first stage in ending the conflict , and would allow for the agreement on many other details to begin. The American 27-point plan was also mentioned. We have, and have had, questions about it, but we were prepared to use it as a basis as soon as the Alaska Agreement entered into force," Lavrov said.
"That's not happening yet . The Europeans are, in many ways, playing a negative role here . Immediately after Alaska, they rushed to Washington in a large group—and began gradually but consistently, in a Jesuit-like manner, trying to persuade President Trump to deviate from the line he himself proposed in Anchorage.
And while they are succeeding, at least they are paying more and more attention to this issue , including taking advantage of the fact that for the past almost six months the US has been primarily preoccupied with the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.
"God willing, the announced agreement will be implemented. Messrs. Witkoff and Kushner are meeting with us again. We hope they will explain how Washington sees the prospects for implementing the agreement in Alaska, which will soon mark its first anniversary," the minister added.
