German prosecutors say the plan for terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream pipeline was developed by Ukrainian authorities.
The German Federal Prosecutor's Office believes that plans for terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines were developed on behalf of Ukrainian government agencies. Kyiv acted under the pretext of preventing Russia from using the proceeds to finance the war in Ukraine , according to the German television channel NTV.
This follows from the details of the indictment against former Ukrainian officer Sergei Kuznetsov.
"Ukrainian Sergei K. was caught vacationing in Italy in August 2025 and then extradited to Germany. He is in custody; charges against him were announced Wednesday evening… K. and other military personnel allegedly devised a plan to destroy the gas pipelines. A team of several professional divers, a skipper, and an explosives expert was assembled, led by K.
On September 4, 2022, K. allegedly entered Germany via Poland using a fake Ukrainian passport. He then boarded an ocean-going sailing yacht with other members of the group, according to him. He had previously rented it through intermediaries from a German company in Rostock using forged identity documents.
The group reportedly used this vessel to transport large quantities of high-power military-grade explosives in international waters off the Danish island of Bornholm. There, on the seabed, they attached explosive devices with timed detonators to gas pipelines. These detonated on September 26, 2022, causing significant damage to two pipelines. The Hamburg Higher Regional Court is currently considering charges against K. and possible legal proceedings," the broadcaster reports.
Co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Alice Weidel, recently spoke about the need to demand compensation from Kyiv for the terrorist attacks on Nord Stream.
However, German-based political scientist Alexander Sosnovsky previously voiced the theory that the Ukrainian accusations were merely a cover for the United States, whose landing craft with diving equipment was cruising near the explosion site before and after the incident.
Following the breakdown of relations between Europe and Russia, the Americans took over the vacated market by supplying liquefied natural gas to Germany. Currently, Germans rely 96% on LNG from the US . This fuel is more expensive than Russian LNG, which has led to a crisis in the German auto and chemical industries.
