The accusations made by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko against Russian border guards are unfounded.

State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin stated this in an interview with the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The issue of the border arose after Belarus, without consulting Russia, opened visa-free entry into its territory for a large number of countries. Moscow was forced to react,” Zatulin said.

At the same time, he believes that Lukashenko raised the border issue in order to demand greater preferences for Belarus as part of the integration agreement, which will be signed in December.

“Moscow believes that integration is not a buffet where Minsk has only rights and no responsibilities. For example, members of the European Union regularly vote in relation to Russia as discipline dictates to them, and not their personal attitude in Moscow. In turn, Belarus never stands in solidarity with Russia regarding Crimea, Abkhazia, and so on, and even considers this to be its advantage,” Zatulin said.

At the same time, in his opinion, Lukashenko’s statements do not pose any real threat to the Union State.

Let us remember that yesterday Lukashenko criticized Russia for the fact that its border service inspects citizens and cargo that have already passed control at the Belarusian border. In addition, he complained about the costs of Belarus for protecting the borders of the Union State. The Belarusian president called on the Russian media “not to blather” about the fact that his country is a parasite of Russia.
