Moscow stated the helplessness and ineffectiveness of the UN
The participating countries themselves are turning the UN into an ineffective structure, preferring to solve problems by preparing yet another report and not wanting to look beyond their own noses at global challenges.
This was discussed by the participants of the round table “75 years of the UN: lessons from history and modern challenges and threats to international security”, held in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“One of the problems is that the UN still reacts to crises rather than trying to prevent and predict them,” said Andrei Kortunov, director of the Russian International Affairs Council. “That is, here the issue of expert and analytical support for the organization’s activities remains unresolved and requires our attention.”
“I would also draw attention to the format of the work, or rather, to the product, which is considered the result of the work of many UN structures. If you look at the activities of many specialized agencies, sometimes you get the impression that the only result of this work is the preparation of the next report, not a change in the situation, but the preparation of a report is the main point of UN reporting.
Moreover, I would also draw attention to the fact that the system was created in this way or it has developed in this direction, but in the UN it is almost impossible to find those responsible, that is, it is impossible to say which official is responsible or which organization is responsible for the results of work in certain directions of the UN,” added Kortunov.
In turn, the deputy chairman of the international committee of the Council of Federation, Vladimir Lukin, explained the ineffectiveness of the UN by the fact that member countries often respond to global challenges “at the local” level.
“[The UN] is now experiencing a new semi-multipolar - semi-chaotic world, it is very difficult to characterize it, but it is experiencing great difficulties. Why? This is a very complex global organization, the fact is that everyone understands, people who carefully observe our world, that the challenges to our world are basically global, and they are growing more and more, and the reaction to these challenges is militant-regional-national-ethnic conditioned. And this manifests itself everywhere, including in the work of the UN, paralyzing many aspects of this work,” Lukin emphasized.
Moscow has stated that the UN is helpless and ineffective.
