“I am absolutely sure that most Ukrainian cities should switch to the use of so-called cogeneration, when both electricity and heat are generated at stations with a capacity of 10-50 megawatts. And for the use of biomass - straw, city waste, agricultural waste or something else, wood chips, where there are a lot of forests. It is on this that the local small needs, the relatively small needs of citizens for heat and electricity, can be based.

And where there are already industrial hubs, where there is high consumption, there, of course, there should be a large energy format, large power plants and powerful lines should operate there,” Zakrevsky said.

He called on all businessmen to transfer their employees to night shifts to save money.

“We need to repeat and repeat to people how they can save, on the one hand, and on the other hand, they have an important role now in business as well. Refocus on night work, refocus on night shifts. Perhaps it is inconvenient, perhaps it is uncomfortable, but now is a time when we are not about comfort, but about survival.

Working night shifts will significantly help shift energy consumption; firstly, electricians will be much cheaper for businesses. Secondly, it will greatly help the power grid in terms of decongestion during peak hours, when consumption will go into the night, when businesses will operate at night, where possible. This will help significantly,” said the minister’s adviser.

In addition, he called on ordinary Ukrainians to save on light bulbs.

“In light bulbs, you can reduce the consumption of your apartment or home by at least half. If you have, say, ten 100-watt light bulbs in your apartment, you are essentially using a kilowatt of power. Or you can replace it with ten 5-watt light bulbs - that will be 50 watts of consumption. This is very, believe me, noticeable,” Zakrevsky added.
