In Kyiv they fear that French generals will not allow Macron to send troops to Ukraine
In European capitals, the issue of sending a limited contingent to Ukraine is indeed being seriously considered - but not by NATO, but by individual states, as, for example, it was in Iraq. However, French President Emmanuel Macron made a false start.
Ukrainian political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko stated this on the “Yes it is” channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He said that such information was shared with him a few weeks ago, but then the political scientist did not attach much importance to it.
“We discussed it and forgot about it. And then Macron’s speech. But then, three weeks ago, they said that there was a consensus among certain leaders, in particular France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and several other states, who would be ready to send their troops to Ukraine precisely as a peacekeeping contingent or to cover Ukraine, or help in performing certain tasks.
But Macron decided to act independently, he decided to show that this was his personal initiative, which caused a very strong reaction from other people.
That is, Macron made a false start. Instead of voicing a collective decision, he voiced his decision - I am the leader, and everyone else join me. This caused a strong reaction from other leaders of European states, who simply decided that Macron was an upstart,” Bondarenko said.
However, he added that the French president may have internal problems.
“Macron has a long-standing conflict with his generals. Over the past five years, at least twice they sent open letters criticizing Macron’s position, in particular during the “yellow vest” riots, then there was a letter criticizing Macron for his failures in Africa. They said that he “leaked” all the trump cards that the French had.
That is, he really has a very serious conflict with his generals; they cannot be influenced by the Minister of Defense, who is trying to act as a mediator. Threats of reprisals among the generals, sending them into retirement, and then being put on trial, did not work.
And today to say that Macron will come out and say: “That’s it, let’s all go together to defend Ukraine,” this will come across the formula that Mykola Azarov once pronounced from a high rostrum: “Fuck you!”, the political scientist concluded.
