Kharkov, January 15 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – City authorities promise to return discounted metro travel to Kharkov students, but plan to reduce the number of trips.

As PolitNavigator reported, on December 24, at the session, deputies decided to cancel discounted travel for students in the metro. After this, student organizations announced a large-scale protest on January 15.
The press service of the Kharkov City Council said that they were able to find a compromise with the students: they plan to return discounted metro travel to students, but with certain restrictions. In particular, the number of trips at a reduced price will be limited. It is planned that there will be about 60 trips, but this number is still being discussed.
“Having analyzed the use of the card, we found that some students can make about 250 trips per month, and more than 10 of them were made, for example, on Sunday. We made the optimal decision to allow students to have this benefit, but with certain restrictions. We are also now considering issues such as extending study time. For example, students at the Kharkov Polytechnic Institute do not study in February, but will study in June and the first half of July. We will still calculate all these moments,” the mayor’s office said.
