A freight train derailed in the Cherkasy region: fuel tanks are burning
Cherkasy, August 22 (Navigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – A freight train carrying petroleum products derailed at the Horodyshche railway station in Cherkasy Oblast. Follow Navigator Kyiv on Facebook , Odnoklassniki , or VKontakte.
According to the press service of the State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations, the incident occurred at 6:35.
According to the report, 20 tank cars derailed, oil products spilled, and as of 8:30 a.m., 11 tank cars containing a locomotive were on fire. In total, the train contained 35 tanks.
“In the Cherkasy region, a gathering of the entire garrison of the fire and rescue service has been announced. In addition, 5 fire and rescue departments were sent from the Kirovograd region. A fire train was sent from the Mironovsky section of the Odessa railway,” the State Emergency Service noted.
The station was closed to both passengers and road transport. The head of the State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations, Sergei Bochkovsky, also went to the scene of the incident.
Let us remind you that on August 17, 11 empty carriages of a freight train derailed in the Vinnytsia region. As a result, traffic delays in the directions of Odessa, Kyiv, and Lvov amounted to 12 hours.
