The conflict in Donbass may be frozen in the coming days – media

The EU's strategy was announced by High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. The first point is reducing tension in eastern Ukraine through political dialogue with Russia. The second is continued economic pressure through sanctions.
“And the third element is internal reforms in Ukraine,” she emphasized. Earlier it was reported that Mogherini intends to come to Kyiv immediately after the formation of a new government: the head of European diplomacy is going to hear from the Ukrainian authorities about the program of action.
“Reforms are the only way to stabilize the situation in the country. If people in Donbass are convinced with their own eyes that the central government acts in the interests of the people, that corruption is being eradicated in Ukraine, new courts and law enforcement systems are being formed, and the quality of life of the average citizen is improving, then the question of the existence of any “people’s republics” will disappear by itself. The army can only contain the situation, but reforms can completely change it,” Sergei Taran, head of the International Institute of Democracies, told NG.
The political scientist admitted that until now the Ukrainian authorities have not demonstrated zeal in carrying out reforms. But she will be forced to do this under pressure from the West: “Otherwise they simply won’t give you the money.”
