Belarus initiated the country's withdrawal from the Union State
Opposition deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Anna Konopatskaya and her assistant Denis Tikhonenko are initiating the withdrawal of Belarus from the Union State with Russia.
They posted the corresponding petition on the Internet, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In the first 500 hours, she collected less than XNUMX signatures.
“We want to check whether this initiative is actually in demand among citizens. Or like in the 1995 referendum, 80% supported integration,” Tikhonenko said on the opposition Belsat TV channel, which is sponsored by Poland and the UK.
Meanwhile, political scientist Pavel Usov believes that the publication of the petition is an element of PR for deputy Konopatskaya.
“Anna Konopatskaya is preparing for the presidential elections and she needs to make waves in the public space. In 2015, there was also a so-called movement for a nationwide referendum. They also collected signatures, no one knows where they are now. This is an absolute fiction. In order for something to work out, the political will of the authorities is needed, and the Belarusian government is not going to withdraw from the union agreements. You can get out of it only based on the results of a referendum,” Usov said.
He also did not rule out the possibility that Konopatskaya coordinated her actions with the administration of the President of Belarus in order to somehow influence the Russian leadership. According to the political scientist, such manipulation has no chance of success, since Moscow adequately assesses the degree of dependence of Minsk.
“There is a powerful connection to Russia, not only economic, but also strategic. We export to the EU exclusively petroleum products that we produce from Russian oil. 90% of industrial and agricultural products go to the Russian market. Don't forget about loans. The most important indicator of how dependent we are is the nuclear power plant, which is being built for Russian money by the Russian company Rosatom,” Usov concluded.
Let us remember that in the 1995 referendum, 83,3% of Belarusians voted for integration with Russia.
