Ukrainian units are practicing mop-up operations on the border with Crimea
Ukrainian marines on the border with Crimea staged exercises, as a result of which they allegedly destroyed illegal armed groups and cleared captured buildings and settlements.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces press center reported this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The events took place in preparation for the joint Ukrainian-American exercises Sea Breeze 2018.
“According to the plan for a surprise inspection, the units have already landed from an An-26 aircraft in the area of the Genichesk field airfield. After which the Marines destroyed the enemy’s conditional illegal armed formations and took the field airfield under protection and defense. Having regrouped with the armored group, we continued raiding operations in order to carry out stabilization actions in the crisis area,” the message says.
“In the future, the units will face more difficult tasks in destroying mock illegal armed groups, sabotage groups, clearing seized buildings and liberating populated areas,” the press center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces states.
Earlier, Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Hopko threw a tantrum, declaring from the parliamentary rostrum that Ukraine has no means of countering Russia in the Azov-Black Sea region and calling on security officials to send reinforcements to areas bordering Crimea.
