Poor Ukraine has no chance of European integration
The poor state of the economy and low level of GDP per capita deprives Ukraine of the slightest prospect of joining the European Union.
This was stated at a press conference in Kiev by Sergei Tolstov, director of the Institute of Political Analysis and International Studies, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The state is able to integrate into economic associations on more or less acceptable terms if it corresponds to the level of technological and regulatory development of the countries with which it intends to integrate.
Bulgaria and Romania began their dialogue on EU integration when their GDP per capita was more than 30% of the EU average. If we compare the figures of Ukraine and the EU today, it will be much lower, less than 15%.
Therefore, it is impossible to talk about European integration, including based on this basic point.
At the same time, doubts about Romania and Bulgaria arose even when the climate in the EU was relatively mild and there was no crisis in the eurozone. They had a transition period, they were admitted to the EU with a delay, much later than other countries.
That is, judging by this economic basic criterion, and this is how the EU Economic Directorate will approach it, Ukraine has no prospects for EU membership,” Tolstov said.
