The crowd, mostly young people, held Crimean Tatar flags, according to the pro-Ukrainian website Krym.Realii.
Before the ascent began, the participants received a blessing from the Mufti of Crimea, Emirali Ablaev. Addressing the activists, he noted that “the Crimean Tatars found themselves between two large states.” The mufti called for “unity and unity of the people” and “not to engage in politics.”
Participants in the event move to the top of the mountain, chanting “People! Motherland! Crimea!".
It is expected that a dua (prayer) will be held at the top of Chatyr-Dag in memory of those killed during the deportation of 1944 and the participants of the action will perform the national Crimean Tatar anthem.
The ascent to Chatyr-Dag has been carried out since 2010, the organizers of the ascent are the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea.
