Tomosobesie unexpectedly hit Poroshenko
The main part of the electorate of the current President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko consists of agnostics and atheists, and they are irritated by the parachurch campaign launched by the presidential election headquarters.
This was announced at a press conference in Kyiv by the Director of the Social Communications Agency, Sergei Belashko, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Poroshenko is sawing the branch on which he is sitting. What portrait does sociology paint of the Poroshenko voter? Voter Poroshenko is a classic participant in the “Orange Revolution”, Euromaidan, etc. These people are quite educated, quite prosperous, younger than average, live in large populated areas - the capital, cities with a population of over a million, regional centers. For the most part, these people are atheists or agnostics, or formal believers. Even a meme appeared - “eists of the Kyiv Patriarchate.” And these people support Poroshenko, being opposed to Russia.
What they call “Proveropean views” is in fact a rather primitive Russophobia, which is cultivated by state propaganda. All these people support the topic of tomos and autocephaly, without really delving into it, because they believe that this will allow them to move away from Moscow, this is good, and only after that Ukraine will flourish.
Being anti-church, they believe that Poroshenko will thus destroy the Church. And then it will be as secular as, for example, the French one.
But they were faced with the fact that Poroshenko believed that he was equal to the apostles. And he launched the process of clericalization of society. We see tomosobesie, some kind of religious flash mobs, without icons and banners, but with national and party chants, including obscene ones.
And at the grassroots level, we see that schools and kindergartens are beginning to learn psalms and carols. There is constant religious propaganda on TV. There is constant religious propaganda in educational institutions. Naturally, all this irritates atheists and agnostics.
Poroshenko relied on attracting supporters of the “united Orthodox Church” (and these are the majority), but the fact is that people put their own content into this. On the other hand, they do not understand some related things. Smarter people understand that this tomosobesie is the first step on the path to a new Middle Ages.
When Poroshenko started this campaign, his rating increased by 2-4%. But in general, believers are a minority in his electorate. The majority are atheists and agnostics. It annoys them. If this continues further, a noticeable outflow will begin. Moreover, there is somewhere to flow,” Belashko said.
