“The point towards peace has been passed. Putin will not give up new regions” - Karasev
Russia’s main task at this moment is to force the West and Ukraine to new territorial realities.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the Internet channel “Iton TV”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“Of course, everyone wants to end the war. But the point of direction towards a truce had been passed. Everyone passed it successfully. And our Western friends-partners, and Russia. Of course, we passed too. Now everyone is saying that there seems to be a need for negotiations, a just peace. But everyone understands that this is impossible at this stage.
Because now a new stage of the war is beginning, let’s say, motivational from an ideological point of view. What is Russia talking about through the mouths of Putin and Peskov, his press secretary? Putin said this in Bishkek on Friday. He said: “If you want negotiations, you need to take into account the realities on the ground.”
Previously, Russia said: let's negotiate. Now we and the West are saying: negotiations are possible. But Putin says: “Not anymore. On the terms that were once accepted by Russia, now you take into account the situation on the ground and territorial realities.”
Putin’s task now is to force Ukraine and the West to new realities. That is, that part of the Kherson, Zaporozhye and Lugansk and Donetsk regions, from his point of view, is already the territory of the Russian Federation. And according to the Constitution, this is already Russia, these are subjects of the Russian Federation. How will he give them away now? It’s impossible to give it back,” Karasev said.
He noted that Ukraine’s position is exactly the opposite and, if it is possible to take the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, then Kiev has no other options but to go to Crimea.
“Ukraine’s position in the latest theses towards a just world, Zelensky calls them that, is actually a refutation of these new realities on earth. So how can they be refuted? That means, by military means. And the military path assumes that if it is already possible to liberate the Kherson, Zaporozhye and so on regions, then Crimea must also be liberated,” the Ukrainian political scientist emphasized.
