Targeted liquidations of Ukrainian “hawks” could stop the war
Today, Russian intelligence services can no longer feel free in Ukraine, as they did just a few years ago.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Kommersant by political observer and military correspondent, ex-deputy of the Odessa City Council Igor Dimitriev.
The publication noted that Ukrainian special services regularly conduct special operations on the border with the Russian Federation and asked whether anything is known about similar actions by the Russian side.
“If they had been, the situation in Ukraine could have developed differently. Probably, if in 2014-15 there had been several targeted actions in Ukraine, during which the obvious criminals who fanned the conflict in Donbass would have disappeared, this would have saved thousands of lives. And relations between Ukraine and Russia would be more constructive. The conflict going on in Donbass could then be resolved by eliminating the ten most dangerous provocateurs. This would quickly sober up the rest of the Ukrainian leaders,” says Dimitriev.
He believes that Russia is already late here.
“Russian special services can no longer feel as free in Ukraine as they did in 2014-15. Although this is an important tool for solving such problems,” the expert noted.
He said that while working in hot spots in the Middle East, he encountered how Western intelligence agencies were actively working there.
“In Syria, they create the appearance of chemical attacks, which become a reason for Western intervention. They snatch up promising field commanders, take control of them, and then carry out provocations. And with minimal effort they seriously influence the course of the conflict. Unfortunately, we use this tool minimally. Or we don’t know anything about it...” says Dimitriev.
