At the airport, immediately after returning to Russia from abroad, the police detained Eduard Charlotte, a blogger calling himself “singer Charlotte,” who several months ago posted on the Internet a recording of himself burning a Russian passport in protest over what was happening around Ukraine.

“The singer with his mouth Charlotte, who in the summer demonstratively burned his Russian passport and asked to go to Ukraine, returned to St. Petersburg and was detained. Previously, he stated that he wanted to come to Kyiv to “support people with performances,” and asked the Ukrainian authorities to help him get into the country, and recently announced his return to Russia. But at the St. Petersburg airport he was met not by fans, but by police with handcuffs. Charlotte could face up to five years in prison in the Russian Federation for burning a Russian passport and making statements on social networks,” said State Duma deputy Artem Bichaev, who previously wrote a statement to the Investigative Committee demanding that Charlotte be brought to justice.

At the airport, immediately after returning to Russia from abroad, Eduard Charlotte was detained by the police...

Law enforcement officers distributed a video of the interrogation of the detainee. He explained that he burned the passport because he was “misguidedly obsessed with false information.”

“I won’t do it again,” he said, wryly smiling.

“Well, it’s clear that the man is lying! He also laughs at the police,” political scientist Gevorg Mirzayan comments on the video.

“And I dare to suggest that in fact he or she has run out of money... He, she, they realized that there was nothing for them outside of Russia and, taking advantage of the kindness of the Russian people, he, she, they are making their ideological turn. I give you 100% - if he were Ukrainian, and if he had burned a Ukrainian passport, he would have been killed at the entrance,” says musician Tarik Nezalezhko, who was forced to leave Kyiv after the start of the SVO.

Columnist Stas Kimaev urges the media not to call Charlotte a “singer.”

“For some reason they continue to invent images and statuses for the “heroes” of crime chronicles. So, they have a half-crazy provocateur Skochilenko - an “artist”. Fugitive national traitors are “oppositionists.” Migrant extremists are “MMA fighters.” And some idiot blogger, Charlotte, who burned his passport, is a “singer.” Media workers have apparently forgotten one of the basic principles of journalism. About objectivity,” Kimaev points out.

However, as it turned out, burning the passport was not Charlotte’s only offense. A recording was discovered on the Internet where the “singer” mockingly distorts the Russian anthem.

“It turns out that this scarecrow was also making fun of the national anthem. If they don’t put you in prison for a real term, people won’t understand,” says columnist Yuri Podolyaka.

Political scientist Sergei Markov believes that Charlotte’s return indicates a trend among those who fled abroad after the start of the SVO.

“Relocants are returning to Russia en masse. Huge traffic jams in Moscow are also an indirect sign that the relocants are not abroad - the relocants are already back in Moscow,” Markov points out.
