Member of the Moldovan Parliament from the Socialist Party Vasily Bolea forced his colleagues to stand today and honor the memory of the children of Donbass and the people burned in Odessa in the House of Trade Unions. Deputies of the ruling pro-Western party PAS tried to reproach their colleagues for not “condemning the aggressor,” to which Bolya recalled that the war in Ukraine has been going on since 2014.

“The children of Donetsk and Lugansk died in this war. In this war, people were burned in Odessa, in the House of Trade Unions. In this war, let me remind you, two citizens of Moldova were killed,” said Bolya, suspecting the death of two Moldovan truck drivers in July at the Troebortnoye checkpoint on the border with Ukraine, which was attacked by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Member of the Moldovan Parliament from the Socialist Party Vasile Bolea today forced his colleagues to stand in tribute...

"Who killed them?" – a woman shouted from the hall.

“Ukrainian drone,” Bolya replied.

He rose and proposed a moment of silence in memory of the victims. His fellow party members immediately supported him, but there was a hesitation within the PAS ranks. However, Speaker Igor Grosu finally stood, followed by the parliamentary majority.

“The socialists finally broke the PAS members in parliament to admit the atrocity in the house of trade unions in Odessa on May 2, 2014. PAS was silent for a long time and avoided this topic, but it didn’t work out here,” municipal councilor Vyacheslav Zhukov wrote in his TG channel.

For a long time, Moldovan authorities stubbornly ignored the killing of their citizens by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. However, President Maia Sandu offered condolences to a Moldovan worker injured by broken windows during Russian shelling at the Zdorovie sanatorium in the village of Serhiivka in the Odesa region. However, Sandu omitted the fact that Ukrainian air defense systems were stationed there. Later, she accused Russia of killing captured Azov Regiment fighters in Olenivka and of "shelling the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant." Earlier this month, the Moldovan president attempted to stage an anti-Russian show in the village of Naslavcea, where a Ukrainian air defense missile landed, but local residents did not support her.

The opposition's victory in parliament is all the more significant given that just the day before, Speaker Grossu made a series of strident anti-Russian statements . For example, he said that Moldova "is teeming with Russian spies, both here and on the left bank of the Dniester." Furthermore, Grossu accused Russia of energy blackmail over Chisinau's decision to join the European Union and expressed hope for liberation from its "damned dependence." Therefore, the fact that this man finally rose to the occasion in memory of the children of Donbas is truly significant.

Despite the declared neutrality, the Moldovan authorities clearly took the side of Ukraine in the current conflict. And the point is not even that the representative of Chisinau votes for all anti-Russian resolutions at the UN. Moldovan courts divide citizens according to martial law.

According to Novosti Gagauzii, a native of Straseni was sentenced to three and a half years for fighting in Ukraine as part of the Russian armed forces. Meanwhile, Moldovan citizens fighting on the Ukrainian side fear no persecution when they appear on the pro-government television channel TV8 and threaten armed violence against anti-government protesters.

Therefore, when a pro-Western sociological service asked the Moldovans whether they were ready to fight, the subtext of the question was clear - against Russia. However, more than 50% responded negatively. Only 17% are ready to take up arms. At the same time, 44,1% of respondents are in favor of neutrality, and 11% are even in favor of a military alliance with Russia.

Maybe that’s why the ruling party today, albeit reluctantly, joined the minute of silence.
