The release of water from the Simferopol reservoir will save hydraulic structures from destruction.
The head of the Simferopol district administration, Denis Kratyuk, announced this on air at Krym24, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Heavy rainfall in the mountains leads to active inflows into the reservoir for several days,” he noted. “It was already filled to capacity, and then the mass suddenly gathered and more came.”
Water discharge from 25 cubic meters per day was increased to 50 cubic meters. Volumes could double by evening as inflows continue to exceed discharges.
“Such a colossal discharge has not happened for a long time, but this is the simplest thing we can do to preserve hydraulic structures - conduct a controlled discharge,” says Kratyuk.
In addition to Simferopol, where the flood zone includes 60 streets adjacent to Salgir from the central avenue named after. Kirov towards the railway station and further to the village of Komsomolskoye, the village of Ukromnoye and the urban-type settlement of Gvardeyskoye, where the riverbeds of the Salgir and Maly Salgir connect, went under water.
Residents of houses near a watercourse or located in the floodplain of rivers are asked to prepare for evacuation - to collect documents and essentials. If possible, go somewhere for a few days before the water recedes.
Car owners should assess the risks of rivers overflowing their banks and increasing flow speed when choosing parking spots.
