“Renaming the airport will create serious problems for the occupying country. Because all international documents will have to contain exactly the new name,” said deputy Andrei Teteruk.
His colleague Nikolai Knyazhitsky called the decision “historic.” “We are paying back debts that we should have paid back a long time ago,” he said.
The renaming of the airport in previous years, when Crimea was under the control of Kyiv, was sought by Crimean Tatar organizations. However, opponents of this decision pointed out that the name of Amet-Khan had already been assigned to the Makhachkala airport.
