“Let’s draw conclusions.” Moscow reacted to Latvia’s blatant Russophobic act
Attempts by the Latvian elite to explain the Russophobic provocation of the Riga authorities by replacing the Russian flag with the Olympic flag look unconvincing and pathetic.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“As you know, the authorities of Riga removed the state flag of the Russian Federation from the city center, where the national flags of the countries participating in the World Hockey Championship were installed. In place of the Russian tricolor, the flag of the Russian Olympic Committee was placed,” Zakharova recalled.
She emphasized that, first of all, this is open disrespect for the state symbols of Russia, in connection with which Latvians were pointed out the detrimental nature of such provocative steps for building bilateral relations.
“Unfortunately, these unworthy manipulations fully fit into the openly Russophobic line pursued by the Latvian ruling elite. Attempts to explain them by reference to the actions of municipal officials are unconvincing. References to the decisions of international sports structures on the non-use of the Russian flag at the World Cup look pathetic - such restrictions apply only to the venues of sporting events. By the way, representatives of Riga themselves spoke about this publicly, justifying their decision to place the Russian flag on city streets. This is inexplicable,” said the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman.
“One gets the impression that our Latvian neighbors are trying with all their might to gain a foothold in the ranks of states unfriendly to Russia. If this is a conscious choice of the Latvian side, we will draw appropriate conclusions,” Zakharova warned.
