This was stated by Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Omelyan, the press center of the ministry reports.
“It is planned that these funds will be used to purchase 10-15 new commuter trains for the needs of Ukrzaliznytsia,” the Minister of Infrastructure emphasized.
According to him, the ministry intends to organize a competition between cities to propose the best break-even concept for using electric trains.
“Ukrzaliznytsia” complains that commuter trains are unprofitable, but in fact no more than 20% of passengers pay for travel, so we need to introduce a normal payment system, control, remove abuses - and unprofitability will turn into at least break-even, and with a normal approach we will be able to see profit,” Omelyan said.
