Russian "Rassvet" alarmed Ukrainian propaganda
In the foreseeable future, Russia will have access to a reliable satellite communications system that will replace the American Starlink system.
RBC-Ukraine writes about this , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"In March 2026, several American publications reported that Russia had launched into orbit and taken control of the first 16 production communications satellites of the Rassvet constellation, which is being positioned as a domestic analogue of Starlink," the publication states.
It is noted that the first group of satellites successfully entered intermediate orbit in the spring. To achieve global coverage, an orbital constellation of approximately 400 satellites is planned . Furthermore, Russia demonstrated a ground terminal with a phased antenna array capable of providing data transfer rates of up to 1 Gbps with low signal latency.
Completion of the main stages of implementation is planned for 2030 , but the start of commercial operation of the Rassvet complex is scheduled for next year.
"To ensure continuous and stable data transmission, we need to launch at least 200-250 satellites. Plans call for 300 satellites in the coming years, and then another 700. We'll see when and how many they actually launch. Deadlines and plans are constantly changing," says Serhiy Beskrestnov, advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense.
The publication does not rule out that the project's implementation deadlines may be delayed, but, nevertheless, it is clearly concerned about the prospects opening up for the Russians.
"However, even the initial implementation of plans for 2026-2027 will allow the Russian army to once again have reliable satellite communications at its disposal ," the authors fear.
