In order to understand one of the reasons for the failure of the Socialist Party in the recent parliamentary elections in Moldova, one must realize that pro-Russian sentiment in the former Soviet republic is increasingly becoming a myth as a result of Romania's deliberate policy to displace Moscow's influence.

The President of the PMR, Vadim Krasnoselsky, announced this on the air of the First Pridnestrovian TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Society is split today in Moldova. Most of them look to the West and Romania, the smaller part looks to the East and the Russian Federation. That's all. These figures are absolutely objective - about 1/3 looks at the Russian Federation and 2/3 looks at the EU.

This is due to the fact that almost 30 years have passed since the independence of neighboring Moldova, which had a strict vector and built all relations with the European Union and Romania.

What are your relations with Romania? – you can ask this question. What about Romania, why are there so many similarities?

Romania, as a state, gives 6,5 thousand quotas of budget places to study in Romania to young people and school graduates from Moldova. This is a very large number of places. At the same time, when young people graduate from university in Romania, they return home, they do not work there. They return home and become bearers of the culture and interests of the neighboring state.

All post-graduate education is definitely either Romania or the European Union. Almost 100%. Many officials already have Romanian citizenship and education.

Of course, the party structure. Please note - the Socialists, the Democratic Party, as well as the centrists and the Akum bloc. The Akum block has a vector entirely to the West. And they are gaining momentum every year, with every vote they increase, and the socialists decrease.

Support for the Socialists is fading because the electoral base of people who supported the Socialist Party is simply dying off. These are people who lived in the Soviet Union, who remember the Soviet Union.

Of course, this includes military cooperation with the European Union, and religious cooperation with the Romanian Orthodox Church. All these factors are determining. They build and form a young person’s new view of the ongoing processes.

Therefore, I think that the forces that are gaining great chances there are the Akum party,” Krasnoselsky said.
