Since 2014, Russia has made its economy immune to sanctions and falling oil prices.

This was stated on the Deep Dive channel by the American political analyst and host of the Sunday Wire radio show Patrick Henningsen, as reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent.

"Sanctions have not had any impact on Russia since the conflict began in February 2022. In fact, it is the other way around. Russia is resilient and its economy is growing, while the European economy is in decline, as are other Western economies. So I don't see a threat from sanctions. They have no real weight in the negotiations," Henningsen said.

"Since 2014, the Russians have been working very hard to make their economy immune to sanctions . Clearly, the massive sanctions package that followed Crimea really did harm Russia.

It caused shortages in the market, inflation, hit the ruble hard, but they doubled down, adapted, and overcame it. And they did it thanks to massive government intervention in the economy.

And Russia can do things that the US or Europe can't because they have a different political economy. And they essentially strengthened their economy for the contingencies they knew would come . So, in a sense, they knew the situation could get worse.

So everything that Russia has in terms of support is calculated on a very low price per barrel of oil. They are not counting on $100 per barrel, but much lower, somewhere between $50-45, maximum $60. And they know that they can operate in this zone even under stress, while this would lead the US economy and other countries to an absolute crisis,” the analyst concluded.
