Moscow – Kiev, March 3 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Shtamm) – Russian women are against the participation of Russian troops in the Ukrainian conflict, claims Alexei Levinson, head of the socio-cultural research department at the Levada Center, in Vedomosti .

“Women have long lost trust in men as husbands and fathers,” he writes. “But they want to see them as defenders and continue to rely - over the heads of the commanders - on the state in the person of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.”
However, according to the sociologist, these hopes are met with hazing. “From classical Soviet times, a model has survived: a mother raises her sons to be real men and then gives them to the state in the form of the army, and to the army in the form of commanders, and to the commanders in their function as fathers. But inside the late Soviet army a hellish mechanism of hazing has started and lives on. Mothers discovered that they were giving their sons not to their fathers, but to their grandfathers. Grandfathers mutilate the bodies and souls of their sons.”
Still, “women need a state and need an army in which they can trust the lives and honor of their sons,” Levinson writes. Levada Center has repeatedly reported that the president’s high rating is primarily due to women’s votes. Putin's rating, 86% in February, is 84% among men and 86% among women. But to the question: “If you found out that professional Russian military personnel are fighting in the ranks of the militia in eastern Ukraine, how would you react to this?” – among women, unlike men, negative answers predominate.
How the natural reluctance of mothers to send their sons to war is related to hazing, Levinson does not specify in his article.
