The Economist editor: We lost Russia Today
Kyiv, February 10 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – The West was late in reacting to Russia’s information offensive.
This recognition in a publication for the weekly “Ukrainian Week” was made by the first vice-president of the Center for European Policy Analysis (Washington), senior editor of The Economist magazine Edward Lucas, who points to the information component as the most important element of hybrid warfare.

“The story of RT, the multilingual television network formerly known as Russia Today, is instructive,” Edward Lucas cites the example. – RT is slippery, nimble and knows how to persuade. She doesn't get hung up on promoting Russia. But he carries out extensive work against the West. The unofficial (and sometimes open) themes of her programs are about the decay, hypocrisy, intimidation and expansion of the West. Democracy is just a cover, and human rights are a weapon that is selectively used for cynical geopolitical reasons. People are being lied to, and they are outraged, not without reason.”
The author of the material also points out that the threat to the West comes not only from Russian information resources, and other countries also use RT methods.
“This approach (which is also widely used by other television companies, such as Iran’s Press TV, China’s CCTV and some Latin American ones) is much more effective than the oak propaganda on Radio Moscow and other stations during the Cold War,” sums up a senior editor at The Economist. “It is definitely more effective than the West’s sluggish attempts to convey its ideas to the population of Russia, China or Venezuela. A few years ago, Western security experts just laughed at RT. Now they don't laugh anymore. The channel has over 1 billion downloads on YouTube. NATO and some hardline Western parties are trying to revive efforts on the information front that have been dormant since the Cold War. But they were late."
