“Cooperation with the IMF means a partial loss of the country’s sovereignty and independence, which also needs to be clearly understood. And they cooperate with the IMF and receive loans mainly from countries that are in a difficult economic situation. Let's say Russia does not resort to IMF loans.

They paid off all the loans during Putin’s first term and began to pursue an independent policy, one that contributed to the technological development of Russia. And that’s why they have a large accumulation of foreign exchange reserves, about 500 billion constantly,” Suslov noted.

He also explained that the Russian Federation was able to compensate for losses from sanctions, but Ukraine was not.

“But the growth rate of the Russian economy, as a result of sanctions and other reasons, has decreased even lower than in Ukraine today. But we must understand that Russia simultaneously carried out a huge import substitution. After all, Ukraine managed to inflict a powerful economic blow on Russia.

For example, a refusal to supply helicopter engines should have destroyed an entire industry, but in fact Russia has created its own helicopter engine production industry. The refusal to supply engines for ships, including military ones, was supposed to cripple the construction of the fleet. It crippled us for a year or two, delaying the delivery of many ships. But they created their own industry. They spent a lot of effort trying to compensate for this. And they were able to do it, but we couldn’t,” the economist concluded.
