Gref's frightening forecast: Economist Andrei Shpilenko commented on the decline in incomes of Russians
Former Russian Minister of Economic Development German Gref said that Russians’ incomes could fall by 14% by 2035. Considering that the country still cannot boast of enviable salaries, the forecast looks frightening.
According to the head of the Association of Clusters and Technoparks, economist Andrei Shpilenko, poverty is the main problem of the state, and the coronavirus pandemic has only increased its scale.
“The decline in real incomes is the most pressing problem in Russia. The pandemic has worsened the situation, increasing inflation and increasing the number of Russians below the poverty line - there are now 19.6 million people in Russia. Over the past year alone, this number has increased by 400 thousand,” Shpilenko said.
To date, household incomes have already fallen by 10% compared to 2013. This, according to the economist, makes the prospect of further declines even more depressing.
Shpilenko emphasized that to solve the problem of poverty in the country, an integrated approach is needed, as well as reforms that could ensure the growth of all sectors of the economy in the interests of all citizens.
