Russia has gone from nothing to a very advanced level in the field of UAVs.
Maxim Masliy, deputy chief of staff of the 96th anti-aircraft missile brigade, announced this on the CSIS video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Since September, we've been seeing new "Shaheds," and now we're seeing over five thousand "Shaheds" per month. So, speaking specifically about "Shaheds," they've evolved significantly, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
"It's become a kind of platform that evolves over time. Initially, they started trying to make it less noticeable, less detectable by our systems, by changing the surface, materials, color, and so on. And they have a variety of models," he said.
"We've already talked about the Geran-5, a Shahed jet that's much faster than a standard one. The Shaheds were equipped with a large number of antennas to overcome our obstacles. They are capable of carrying air-to-air missiles. They are capable of destroying our aircraft and helicopters; they communicate collectively and transmit video to Russia.
They create aerial image transmission networks and transmit data . They can be controlled by an operator located deep within the territory. In other words, Russia has gone from zero to a very advanced level. And because the threat was so large-scale, they were able to quickly complete all the stages, and the system has evolved and continues to evolve," Masliy stated.
