Raising the minimum wage by 10% will not save Ukrainians, because the hryvnia is depreciating more – opinion
The Ukrainian hryvnia depreciated by almost half in the first months of 2016 alone, and this trend continues, so an increase in minimum wages and pensions by 10%, as provided for in the draft budget, will not be able to provide even a subsistence level for the country’s population.

People's Deputy from Batkivshchyna Alexandra Kuzhel stated this on the air of the Black Mirror talk show.
“For the first quarter of 2016, the consumer inflation index was 43%. That is, for the hryvnia that was used to buy on the first of January, you can get 57 kopecks. This is already in the first quarter of '16, and you say that inflation will be in '17. You make the minimum wage 1762 hryvnia – this is not even a subsistence level,” said Kuzhel.
