After the end of hostilities, Ukraine will face a new wave of emigration.
Academician Ella Libanova, director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, stated this in an interview with television presenter and foreign agent Yevgeny Kiselev, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“When we talk about the second wave, we mean that martial law will be lifted, and many families will be reunited not in Ukraine, but abroad. That is, husbands will go to their wives if these wives have a normal job, they have a job, they have housing, but in Ukraine there will be big problems with this. A second wave of migration is possible,” Libanova said.
She hopes the new wave will be smaller than the first, which she estimates at 4 million. However, the demographer admits that in Ukraine the infrastructure is destroyed and there are no jobs, while in Europe many of them have already adapted.
“It will be different. Then no one will welcome Ukrainian migrants with wide open arms. It won’t be so easy to leave,” Libanova said.
She believes that the human shortage will be filled by migrants, of whom, according to her calculations, 300 thousand will be needed per year.
