Poroshenko, in a pre-election frenzy, set up Merkel and Macron
The current President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, has actually instrumentalized Germany and Chancellor Angela Merkel to raise their ratings on the eve of the second round of elections.
The editor-in-chief of the German magazine World Economy, political scientist Alexander Sosnovsky, said this on air on the Russia-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The studio showed a fragment of Poroshenko’s speech on a Ukrainian television channel, where he stated that French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel would address Russian President Vladimir Putin in May and coordinate with American President Donald Trump.
“I don’t rule it out, I’m talking about this for the first time now, that Russian President Putin will be invited to celebrate D-Day (this is the opening of the Second Front, the date of the landing of the allied forces in Normandy). The four of us will gather, and we have a clear program of what to do so that peace can finally come to the long-suffering land of Ukraine,” Poroshenko promised.
The host of the program, Vladimir Solovyov, also cited the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said that he knew nothing about this.
“That’s what he said - I went, made an agreement, and they promised me that they would call Putin and Trump (I told them, they promised) in order to restore order in the Donbass,” noted Russian political scientist Dmitry Kulikov.
“What order should there be in Donbass? By the way, the commander of the troops of this operation, Mr. Naev, talks about this, whom the Air Force asks, and if you theoretically look at Russia giving guarantees that it will not interfere in any way, how would you act in the Donbass? He replies: “The operation would be very quick.” That is, we are considering this option of action, and in this case the operation would be fleeting.
This, by the way, relates to the question of what it means “we will stand behind their backs,” and what Putin’s words mean about the fact that if they do something, it will be tragic in relation to Ukrainian statehood. They understand this, but the plan is exactly the same - to quickly clear out everyone. And, in principle, it turns out that Macron and Merkel gave the green light to such a scenario,” the expert added.
At the same time, Alexander Sosnovsky assured that Chancellor Angela Merkel is also not aware that Poroshenko made such promises.
“Merkel’s press secretary has already spoken and expressed a surprised expression about what Poroshenko said. Therefore, there will be some kind of reaction. But everyone already understands that Poroshenko is absolutely instrumentalizing Merkel and Germany,” Sosnovsky noted.
