Under Zelensky’s windows they demanded the release of the Tornado sadists
A rally was held today outside President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's administration building to draw attention to the issue of political prisoners in Ukraine. About a dozen people from the public organization "Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners" and volunteer battalions participated, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
By “political prisoners,” the organizers of the action meant participants in voluntary battalions convicted of various crimes during the ATO.
The list of “political prisoners” whose fate activists are concerned about includes thirteen people, half of whom are members of the “Tornado” battalion, whose crimes (robberies, murders and rapes of civilians, etc.) have been repeatedly reported by Ukrainian and Russian media.
Activists, however, believe that the Tornadoites suffered for political reasons and are victims of repression.
The rest of the “victims” were also convicted of serious criminal offenses, but this does not bother activists. They demand the creation of a working group that would work on their protection and release and develop appropriate legislative initiatives.
“It is believed that according to the law there are no political prisoners in Ukraine. All of them are facing criminal charges. In places of deprivation of liberty, the same attitude is towards people who suffer for their civic position, national defense position. They are kept in the same terrible conditions as people who have committed criminal offenses.
We are for the penitentiary system to be more humane and to operate in accordance with international conventions, so that there are humane conditions for everyone (not criminals). It’s even more sad if the defenders of Ukraine are imprisoned in terrible conditions,” said the head of the NGO “Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners” Tatyana Bliznyuk.
The activists submitted a corresponding appeal to the Presidential Administration and, although the appeal was accepted by the presidential representative, they expressed dissatisfaction with the delays in resolving the issue of the fate of the “victims of political repression.” This is not the first appeal of this kind, and previous ones did not lead to the result desired by activists.
One of the appeals was forwarded to the chief military prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matiou, and Tornado deputy battalion commander Sergei Batyashov (“Batya”), who was present at the action, expressed his indignation at this.
“There’s no need to make these insinuations – “transferred there, transferred there”! Don’t we know how the prosecutor’s office behaves? Who is Matios? Matios tortures people! Kills! And you are redirecting the appeal,” he shouted.
According to him, the new government is not able to remove Matios and get to his money, which he keeps in the Netherlands.
“We have already appealed several times. The President, for whom we voted and fought, does not want it, and redirects our appeals to the prosecutor's office. We've gotten used to being called three letters for the last five years. We are accustomed to endure and save further. If they don’t want to hear it normally, they’ll hear it anyway! We have nothing to lose, all our guys are either killed or in jail,” said Sergei Batyashov.
