The idea to use such an element in the church's design belongs to the rector and district council member Anton Kumpeta, reports the publication "Dumskaya".
According to outraged Ukrainian patriots, the rector held a competition for the best sketch.

“It should symbolize the “power of eternal Russia.” At the same time, the builders, in order to please the customer, even had to look for a brick with the real colors of the symbol, so that the St. George ribbon would turn out as natural as possible,” the publication quotes the indignant patriots.
“They warn: if the clergyman does not come to his senses and dismantle the “tape” on his own, then the patriotic public will do this,” writes Dumskaya.
As PolitNavigator reported, Odessa residents have been repeatedly detained for wearing the St. George ribbon.
