The appointment of Andrei Belousov as Russia's Minister of Defense is a very bad sign for Ukraine, as he will be preparing the Russian economy for a long-term confrontation. Economic and financial analyst Alexei Kushch stated this on the Alpha Media internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"After Belousov's appointment, there will be no transition to a war footing in Russia. Especially since Belousov himself actively opposed general mobilization. He said it would negatively impact the economy, negatively impact business. Belousov himself advocates for synergy between business and the state in developing industry and the economy, with very strong protectionist overtones.
His appointment means that Russia is preparing for the long-term development and existence of the so-called binary economy, in which the civilian sector earns money for investment in the military-industrial complex, which ultimately drives the development of the economy as a whole,” Kushch said.
"Basically, we're preparing for a very long-term military-industrial trajectory, without any sudden shifts in either direction. In other words, Russia is entering a protracted military-industrial trajectory. This suggests that Russia is radicalizing its military-industrial specialization. This is bad news for us, because it means Russia is preparing for a very long-term confrontation not only against Ukraine but also against the West ," the economist added.
