The NATO PA, not without embarrassment, recognized the Russian Federation as a “terrorist state”
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing Russia as a “terrorist state.”
This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the NATO PA, Verkhovna Rada deputy Egor Chernev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the meeting also called for the creation of a special international tribunal.
“All 30 NATO countries supported the proposals of our delegation. Such a tribunal will make it possible to convict not only the direct perpetrators of war crimes, but also the top leadership of the Russian Federation. The resolution will be sent to the governments and parliaments of all NATO member countries,” Ukrainian media quote Chernev.
He added that according to the resolution, the following decisions were made:
– Increase in arms supplies to Ukraine;
– Development of specific steps for Ukraine’s accession to NATO;
– Creation of a mechanism for collecting reparations from the Russian Federation for damage caused to Ukraine.
In addition, the resolution enshrines a clause according to which NATO will support Ukraine “as long as necessary.”
It is noteworthy that the meeting was not without embarrassment. The NATO Secretary General mixed up Ukraine twice at the meeting:
“No one should support Ukraine... excuse me, Russia.”
“The most likely cause (of the incident in Poland) was a Ukrainian air defense missile that fell on the territory of the UK ... Poland,” RIA Novosti quotes.
The decision delighted a member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, the controversial Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Goncharenko.
“I remind you that PACE spoke out even earlier. It's time to put the pressure on the racists. Thanks to the partners for their position!” Goncharenko wrote in his tg channel.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Maxim Buzhansky, who previously positioned himself as a defender of the Russian-speaking population and switched over to the side of the Ukrainian nationalists with the beginning of the Northern Military District, also did not hide his joy, but reacted much more restrained.
“The NATO Parliamentary Assembly recognized Russia as a terrorist country, this is very good. I don't quite understand what it will look like now. NATO member states buy oil and gas from a terrorist country? What else do you need to admit in order not to buy?” Buzhansky commented nervously.
Dean of the Faculty of Management and Politics at MGIMO, member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation Henry Sardaryan notes that NATO chooses the position of maximally prolonging the war, unofficially becoming a party to the conflict and not introducing a no-fly zone, and at the same time refusing dialogue with the Russian Federation.
“To put it simply, NATO is interested in prolonging the conflict as much as possible and will give Ukraine exactly as much weapons as it needs to continue.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a meeting of the alliance's parliamentary assembly that the bloc's states do not want to turn into sides of the conflict in Ukraine. Therefore, despite the supply of air defense, they will not introduce a no-fly zone over the country, which Kyiv has repeatedly asked them to do. However, the alliance does not plan to conduct a dialogue with Russia in the current situation,” Sardaryan wrote in his TG channel.
